#A Short Essay By Apurva Chandarana.....

It may be late, but a try towards Literature.....

Hello friends!!
During the first pre boards in our English 1 (grammar) Examination I was asked to write a report on a book I had read recently read,  and to choose a character I liked from the book. This was exact essay I had written. It may have some errors but please read it and suggest upon it. It will help me improve…...

I agree with the age old saying that books are a man’s best friend but moreover I feel that books are influential teachers. As, what a person reads may strike a chord in his heart and he is more likely to imitate the same in his life. An author’s pen has more influence on the society than a knight’s sword. An author’s pen has the ability to change the text on social fabric if used wisely.
The last book I read was before the Diwali break. It was ‘Half Girlfriend’ by Chetan Bhagat. Actually I had been eagerly waiting to read the book ever since it was announced. And my excitation to read the book was redoubled by the fact that it was my first ever online purchase. Yes , I am proud to say that I was a part of ‘The Big Billion Day’ on Flipkart.

So here it goes it is a typical ‘C. Bhagat’s’ type book. I call it so, as almost all his books talk about the college going generation of India. The book talks about a young Bihari boy, Madhav, a great Basketball player, however lacks in his English. Although he belongs to the royal bloodline there is little left for him. After his father’s death their wealth kept on diminishing, and now he lived with his mother who ran a small school in their village.

Madhav after completing his school decides to go to Delhi for higher education. He gets admission in the Delhi University through sports quota because of his basketball abilities.
On the day of his admission itself he meets Ria. Ria belonged to a rich family in Delhi. She was an introvert person who did not share any of her feelings with anyone. But she had not been the same earlier. She changed only after an incident in the past. About which we come to know later.
After their first meeting the book is like any other love story which gives an account of the obstacles which the lovers go through before reaching the destined stage.

My favorite character from the story without doubt is Madhav. Although he cannot be referred as a complete positive character as he has many flaws in his character. In the beginning it seems as if his love for Ria is born out of certain different means. But at last he proves his love by flying to America with a faint hope of getting Ria. By not describing Madhav as a complete flawless character the author has made him such that all readers can connect with him.

The book has been written in simple language so that it has a wide range of readers and one enjoys reading it. It has its own funny moments which bind the reader and make the character reverberate in our hearts forever.
Thank you.
